Transcript:

Dr. Samuel Lake: Today at Ashton Surgery Center and Suburban Orthopaedics, we just completed the first robotic joint replacement surgery using the newest generation Stryker Mako4 robot.

The advantage of using robotic joint replacement surgery is increased precision in terms of the implant position and the size of the implant, which is customized to the patient anatomy. Using the robot, we can get to one millimeter precision and half a degree of precision, and this has led to quicker recovery after surgery, this has led to decreased pain after surgery, and better outcomes and better patient satisfaction.

So, at Suburban Orthpaedics, we pride ourselves being on the cutting edge of technology. We want the best that is available for our patients, and we like to use the systems that are most widely accepted, which would be a Mako robotic system for joint replacement surgery. The prior generation robot has been hugely successful and has been used in over 45 countries to perform over 1.5 million joint replacement surgeries.

The new generation Mako4 robot provides a number of advances over the prior robot and we’re happy to be able to offer this newest Mako4 robot to our patients for robotic joint replacement surgery.
